Broadband for the sticks

White Space Technology (WST) is being used to test trial the supply of broadband to rural communities at affordable prices. WST uses the airwaves that will be freed up when FM radio goes digital and as the spare spectrum bands are not licensed for any other use, they can be used freely by communications firms. The technology offers speeds of up to 16megabits per second but in theory could become much faster.
